Liquids generally have lower density as compared to solids. But you must have observed that ice floats on water. Find out why ?

Ice has cage like structure, i.e, when water freezes to form ice, a number of empty spaces are created. As a result, volume increases for the same mass of water. of we can say that density of ice is lower than that of water an hence ice floats over water.
